A Revolution Is Brewing In The NFL: Cam Newton Says That People Are “Scared of Him” Well…..You Should Be

I should preface this by saying, I’m not a fan of Cam Newton or the Panthers (they beat my Cardinals) but I am a humanist and a rational thinking individual so just hear me out.

Cam’s bold statement had me taken a back for a moment. It was some sort of clarity involved. An ‘aha!’ Moment: “He’s finally saying what I’ve been thinking the whole time!!”

If you do not think that the heat (wrestling term for ill will or bad blood) doesn’t stem from race (we get the stuff in Florida in the past, this is something new), you are oblivious and lack any sense of social or racial consciousness. Seriously. So the f what that he dances and celebrates? Just last year they were coming at him about sulking, not being with his teammates, and having a lack of leadership. Now, he is being criticized for being jovial by celebrating via dance, rallying around his teammates and celebrating with them in the end zone.

Let’s dissect this real quick:

  • Aaron Rodgers-does the Championship Belt, I mean,

Discount Double Check 😐 when celebrating. White QB. Is there a letter to the editor of a newspaper that his dancing “scarred their daughter for life”? Is he called disrespectful for doing it? Is there any heat? Nope.
  • Tom Brady– after every TD, he runs to the end zone to celebrate with his teammates.

In their faces, pumping fists, spiking balls, all of that. White QB. Is there an outcry for him to be penalized or he’s doing too much? Any heat? Nope.

So then why the hell are people all on Cam? I believe it’s race and the position.

Cam Newton is a rare entity in the NFL. Not that he’s an MVP candidate, personable, charitable or over with the fans (giving the footballs to kids which costs roughly around $300/ball). He is rare because he is a black QB whom has not switched positions based on old school traditional thought that blacks couldn’t be QBs in the NFL despite their college prowess.

To back up my theory and ideology that I have conjured in my earlier years, I took to look at archives of the list of 10 successful college QBs to switch positions in the NFL (they tried to tell Cam to switch to TE, now look at him): 7 Black, 3 White (Julian Edleman was one of them). These players have broken records in college and were told to switch positions in the NFL…why? Well I went to find out.

Warren Moon, another black QB who was very successful in the NFL and had doubters, gave his take in a 2013 scouting report on Geno Smith in USA TODAY via a si.com article by Tim Polzer

His quotes:”It sounds the same as two years ago,” Moon told USA Today. “It just shows that there are a lot of people in society who have the biases and stereotypes. And most of it is about your integrity or leadership or work ethic — all of these intangible things.”

Smith was compared to other black QBs Akili Smith and Aaron Brooks, and the scouting report was dismissed by Trent Dilfer who called the report “laughable”.

Moon’s quotes and the report from 2 years ago echoes to today: blacks are marginalized as the prototypical quintessential QB that people want because, they’re different. Their skin is different, their style is different and their personalities are different. When people are exposed, or overexposed in the pro athlete sense, to something different to where they cannot adjust fear sets in. And that’s Cam’s point. They are scared of the black QB because he’s something they never seen before or are comfortable of seeing which draws hate and misconstrued social and racial views that in turn, cause biases and prejudices.

The gripes and moans of what Cam Newton does, comes from theses biases and prejudices that are a result of fear and uncomfortableness. Rodgers and Brady do the same thing, the Lambeau Leap will forever reign, mass team celebrations will too, and so will Cam when he runs away with his MVP award and possible Super Bowl Trophy.

This Super Bowl is covered with racial superlatives that it will have a head of its own, well it probably has 5 heads by now. Manning vs Cam. Cookie cutter White QB (great by all means even if the HGH thing is true 💡) vs the New Cool and standard Black QB= Ratings Wonders!!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen of the NFL fan base, accept it. Your new standard QB and FACE of the NFL, is black and amazing at football. Sorry? Dab on brotha, Dab on.

  1. Love this!! As a Panthers fan, I love his celebrations. I know the effort it must take to drive all the way down the field, and if you make it, you DESERVE to celebrate. Keep dabbing, Cam. Keep Pounding, Panthers. You’ve had one hell of a season, finish it strong!!
