Straight from the horses mouth, Washington *Won’t Say Team Name* President Bruce Allen will be “getting an opportunity with another team“. The Washington team will be losing a former franchise QB along with $16.2 million from their books. Some of teams “are interested” that he could “excel with in the future”, implied Allen, so there will be a pseudo ‘RGIII Watch’ down the line. But for now, he’s on the outs while Kirk Cousins is looking to get a long term lucrative deal following an ‘alright’ year.
Honestly, this is whole RGIII-Washington is coming to an end and I couldn’t have been any happier. I feel like he didn’t get a fair shake on anything after his gruesome Joe Theisman-like injury following a Rookie of The Year honor and taking his team to the playoffs. A teammate actually echoes my sentiment:
“I think Robert just needs an opportunity,” Baker said. “He needs a coaching staff that believes in him 100 percent and is going to work with him to help him become the best quarterback he can be. This wasn’t the ideal situation or ideal year for a guy like Robert Griffin.”
-Chris Baker via New York Post
An opportunity was not granted to him this year after suffering a concussion. The keys were handed to Kirk Cousins with the quickness as if RGIII was a complete afterthought. Subjected to a practice squad player….lets digest that real quick:
RGIII –
- former Heisman winner
- 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year
- Franchise QB
- 8,049 Passing Yards 40 TD 23 INT 90.6 QB rating 1,480 Rushing Yards 8 TDs
Equals….practice player? Yeah. That doesn’t add up. This seems like a case of- “You’re not our guy”. And to be replaced by a guy that they drafted in the same year and lesser round and make you a back up practice player? Disrespectful.
Granted, there have been grumbling a of him being a protective asset of the Owner and “his guy” which was forced down to everyone to play him and have him on the roster all year. However, there was a reason for that. He’s that damn good. Was. Because he doesn’t play anymore. So hopefully a team does pick him up..oh wait, they are….
Except the Dallas notion was recently nulled. But there are still options! Wherever he ends up, he will excel. He’s an exceptional talent that should not be contained and shelved. He’s a professional and hard worker, and will not stop despite everything that’s been against him this season.
