With the NBA trade deadline looming, the Orlando Magic broke the seal.
The Magic have traded Tobias Harris to the Pistons for Ersan Ilyasova and Brandon Jennings.
Harris is being traded to the Pistons, after signing a $64 million contract with the Magic. In a ‘whoops just kidding about that deal…it’s just not working out right now with us’ move, the Magic have dealt him for an expiring $8 million contract of Brandon Jennings, who’s coming off surgery from a torn achillies, and stretch 4 Ersan Ilyasova who’s $8.4 million left on his contract is non-guranteed (per ESPN report).
This is an upgrade for the Pistons, who get a player, although his numbers are down this year by far, with the potential to stretch the floor more than his predecessor, rebounds better and plays better D as well. The versatility will most certainly help the 27-27 Detroit team, while the Magic continue to try to rebuild under Head Coach Scott Skiles’ regime.
The Magic brass are saying there’s pieces are to add veterans, but c’mon. Ilyasova and Jennings are stop gaps for a pending free agency period that they can make a run at upper level players and key mid level ones as well. Keep looking for the Magic to continue their fire sale at the deadline.
