A Tyrant Leaves his Mark

Na na na nah… na na na nah… Hey…hey… hey… Goodbye!

Someone had to sing today for the fans of Philadelphia. The city of brotherly love has been patiently waiting for another Championship to make its way down Pattison Ave. since the Phillies won back in 2008. Since 2010, Philadelphia Sports has been down right horrendous and no team has plummeted into the sewers faster then my beloved Philadelphia Eagles. For fourteen consecutive years Philadelphia fans had to endure watching Head coach, Andy Reid’s press conferences. If the Eagles had won or lost, Reid showed little emotion and left the media and the fan base in complete and utter darkness.  It was like watching paint dry and the paint roller telling you “I need to do a better job”.  Certainly the man has his flaws, but as Head Coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, Reid accomplished some incredible records and unforgettable moments.

During his fourteen year tenure the man we compared to Kernel Sanders, established himself as the most dominating coach in franchise history with one hundred and twenty wins and ten playoff victories. Reid and Defensive coordinator Jim Johnson captured six divisional titles and five trips to the NFC Championship game including a trip to the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots. Of course the Eagles lost by an Adam Vinatieri field goal…Oh and Tom Brady’s conversation with his Offensive coordinator before each and every play. But hey that’s just how life is… one minute your failing your exam, you look both ways to see where the teacher is standing in the room as you ever so slightly peer over the kid sitting next to you then bam A+ Bitch!

Unfortunately that was the only opportunity the Twinkie Bandit had at carrying the Eagles to the big dance. It was time for a change! Every Philadelphia fan was foaming at the mouth for something new and the feeling was mutual between both parties so it seemed. Andy Reid would be fired after a disappointing 4-12 season with a very talented group of young players, but whom would owner Jeffery Lurie bring in as the new head coach? Gus Bradley? Jay Gruden? Bill Cowhere? Nope… lets try Chip Kelly! … Excuse me? Sure, Kelly created a name for himself as the Head Coach out in Oregon but no one knew what he would do at the pro level. Experts were already calling this man a football guru or offensive genius before he even arrived in Philadelphia. Kelly was supposed to be the coming of the football gods when it came to Head Coach’s like Vince Lombardi, Don Shula and Bill Belichick. Well guess what, it’s been three fucking seasons and your football genius is already packing his bags and on his way out the door. Don’t worry he succeeded in achieving exactly what he wanted.

This “genius” was given the keys to the city after his first season as head coach (going 10-6) as he was given full ownership of football operations and named General Manager and Head Coach. With his new title Chip decided his reign of tyranny should start with the most talented individual on the roster Wide Receiver, Desean Jackson. If you have ever watched Desean Jackson play football you know the man can be an asshole and get under your skin but boy could that man fly! Jackson is a man with many words but the kid could spread the field better then Mrs. Buttersworth on some flapjacks (Not a racial comment, just an analogy people). Kelly’s offensive scheme relies on pure speed and elusiveness, (everything that Jackson has), if it is to work properly like we saw with players like Marcus Mariota, Kenjon Barner, and DeAnthony Thomas at Oregon. Nevertheless, Chip Kelly believed Desean wasn’t worth the headache. Okay then Chip, what can we get for a man that is 26 years old and just came off the best season of his career eclipsing 85 catches for over 1300 yards and 9 touchdowns? How about… a late first round pick or at minimum two-second rounder’s? At least this man has maintained and succeeded in his ability to make big plays. But no… lets let the man walk away due to some alleged gang signs being held in the air. Jackson was made to be the odd man out. The three time pro bowler was released and later signed by division rival, Washington Redskins. Good Thinking Chip! Kelly only gave the wide out some extra motivation when both the Eagles and Redskins played over the last two years. Jackson and the Redskins lead the series 3-1 and have knocked the Eagles out of the playoff hunt over the past two seasons. This past Saturday’s loss however might have been the final blow to Kelly’s unethical coaching methods and the reason why he was shown the door.

But that’s just the Beginning!

I don’t even feel like discussing the whole LeSean McCoy vs. Kiko Alonso Trade. That panned out great this season… That’s sarcasm people! Kiko Alonso still could not remain healthy and when he actually did play he was burned in coverage multiple times. Don’t believe me? Just watch the Patriots vs. Eagles game footage. Alonso almost single handedly allowed Tom Brady to make one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the NFL.

If that was not stupid enough lets also trade Nick Foles, a young man who was never given the time or day and trade him away, along with a second round pick for SAM BRADFORD! SAM FUCKING BRADFORD! Sorry Sam, you are probably not a bad person but you’re just not a NFL caliber Quarterback, in my opinion, and certainly not worth a second round pick. Bradford hadn’t played in nearly two years, coming off of two ACL surgeries so what made him such a high priority? Some said the move was made to try and swindle either the Tennessee Titans or Tampa Bay Bucs in trading their picks to grab Kelly’s old Quarterback Marcus Mariota. But who in their right mind would want to do that? Chip was foolish to even believe anyone had that high of an interest in Sam and if the Cleveland Browns were really offering you two first rounder’s at any point, for a man who hadn’t stepped on the field since Ray Lewis retired, then you should’ve accepted their offer.

After the departure from Philly, Andy Reid was immediately hired as the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. Andy must have thought the city stood for KFC but big red appears he will be having the last laugh against us all. The man who once took the Eagles to the big dance was just dabbing after the Chiefs won their 9th straight victory this past Sunday as he takes his new team, which includes former Eagle Jeremy Maclin, into the playoffs for the second consecutive year.

The Philadelphia Fan base has had nothing to look forward to with any sports team in this city. The Flyers haven’t made the Playoffs in three years. The Phillies are basically the Redding Phillies playing in a bigger city with only Ryan Howard and Carlos Ruiz as veterans to lead the club. While the Sixers are now 4-33 on the season still looking to rebuild since Allen Iverson left back in 2006. No one deserves a Super Bowl title more then these three teams in my opinion the Eagles, the Detroit Lions and the Cleveland Browns but at least Cleveland has LeBron and Detroit is good at every other sport except for football.

As the Eagles wrap up there last regular season contest at home this Sunday against the bitter-rivaled Giants, some fans could care less about the outcome. All I know is at least I wont have to watch Chip Kelly stand their with his stupid ass grin on his face while the Birds give up 45 points on defense and he elects to run the same three plays on offensive. Kick Rocks and Good Riddance… you no good, arrogant, ignorant, spiteful, little man, with your dumbass grin and bullshit logic on player personnel. It is a disgrace to think about what you have done to my favorite team and the game I have been passionate about since I was in pop warner.

By The Way, the Eagles would go on to win that final game under Pat Shurmur. PAT SHURMUR! You see, the problem is not always team chemistry or your daily shakes and chemical balance, it is about how you communicate with your player personnel and making sure there is talent on the field.
